Ownership
Springsure Creek Coal Pty Ltd owns EPC 891 Springsure Creek, which covers part of the Permian Bowen Basin. It is located 36 km SE of Emerald, and 26 km E of Springsure, in a region dominated by broad acre farming.
Location and Infrastructure
The Springsure Creek coal deposit lies within the NNW trending Denison Trough, which lies along the western margin of the Bowen Basin, and comprises coal seams within the Bandanna Formation. The Upper Permian Bandanna Formation is a direct correlative to the Rangal Coal Measures, situated immediately to the east. Conformably overlain by the Triassic Rewan Formation, the Bandanna Formation contains up to 7 coal seams within the area. The overlying Rewan Formation is generally capped with Tertiary basalts, unconsolidated sands or clays.
The lease is dominated by several NW trending broad anticlines, from north to south known as the Turkey Creek Anticline, the Springton Anticline and the Arcturus Anticline. Work by the current EPC holder has also defined a further anticline (Moorooloo), to the west of the main anticlinal trend.
49 holes, including 7 core holes and 17 open holes drilled by Springsure Creek Coal Pty Ltd, have been completed within the EPC. Core recoveries in one core hole were insufficient to provide a reportage basis. A number of holes were also completed by the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy (DME), and by petroleum operators. All of the 22 holes used in this reportage have downhole geophysical logs.
Excellent seismic data exist throughout the prospective areas of the tenement, acquired as part of the historical oil and gas exploration within EPC891. The current seismic coverage demonstrates stratigraphic continuity through the reported areas.
Hole spacing is irregular, with the 7 core holes spaced throughout the lease. The resource estimate presented here divides parts of EPC891 into three domains, here identified as Springton, Arcturus and Moorooloo.
Coal Quality
Coal quality is detailed below, presenting data from the main target seam, A2 for four core holes. All resource estimates contained within refers solely to the Aries 2 Seam (Seam A2).
Resolve Geo has estimated an inferred resource within the three target areas in EPC 891 totaling 239 MT of bituminous coal. An indicated resource of 17.53 MT of bituminous coal amenable to underground mining methods for the Moorooloo area is presented here. The Springsure Creek exploration lease is also targeting a large tonnage of coal in the continuous Aries 2 Seam, outside of the current inferred resource areas. Resolve Geo believes this tonnage to be between 417MT and 600MT (inclusive of inferred resources). This figure is proximate only, though data, including bore hole and seismic information within the exploration lease points to a continuous A2 seam, averaging 3.09m in thickness, mineable with underground methods, underlying an area of at least 97.8 Km2 to 140.8 Km2.
